OTTAWA, February 16, 2005 — The Honourable Joe Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today announced a call for nominations for the 2005 Citation for Citizenship, an award recognizing people who go to great lengths to help newcomers adapt to life in Canada.

“I want to recognize the outstanding volunteers and employees who, through their tireless work and generosity of spirit, help newcomers integrate into Canadian society,” said Minister Volpe. “This award is a symbol of their dedication and their contributions in building a better Canada, both socially and economically.”

The Citation honours Canadian individuals and organizations from the voluntary, private or public sectors who have contributed to the successful integration of permanent residents or refugees.

The citations, consisting of a gold maple leaf pin and a certificate signed by the Minister, will be presented at special ceremonies held in the recipients’ communities during Canada’s Citizenship Week, October 17–23, 2005.
